bits and pieces of my life.
Close to over a decade ago, a time when local calls were (nearly) free and i could logon to local BBS at 9.6kbps the whole night playing LORD, through the days when the Internet required Trumpet Winsock, to the bittorrents and youtube net life of today, i’ve pretty much stayed with TMNet as my ISP. Since it’s raya break and i’ve got time to burn i’m giving another local broadband provider a spin.
P1 is PacketOne, a subsidiary of greenpacket, which recently premier-ed WIMAX services in Malaysia. The WIMAX device offered is a black square brick, small enough for a home but probably not one for carrying around. Experience is pretty much plug and play, which i gathered means the device is pre-configured when i signed up with P1. So, on to the tests -
Test #1 – Speeding Around the World … technically.
A comparison of speedtest.net results -
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
For streamyx i could barely get the London server to start and it crawled to the result above. In any case even if it’s 1MB vs 1.2MB it’s obvious who’s the clear winner. Speed test can vary but no matter how you see it, Streamyx is just pure congested and nearly twice as slow for me.
Winner : P1 w1max
Test #2 – Download a file on the web
64MB Apple iTunes download at http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
| P1 W1MAX 1.2MB | 8 min 23 sec |
| TMNet Streamyx 1MB | 35 min 25 sec |
Consistent with Test 1, the P1 download was over 4x faster.
Winner : P1 w1max
Loading a ~5 minute clip at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pHO1JTNPPOU
| P1 W1MAX 1.2MB | 1 min 29 sec |
| TMNet Streamyx 1MB | 2 min 37 sec |
Youtube streaming on Streamyx has often been choppy. So much so that it’s common practise among my friends to press pause, make coffee, fry an egg and take a bath before streaming the vid. Your results might vary but i have to say streaming on the P1 line was great.
Winner : P1 w1max
Test #4 – Bittorrent
Download a 25MB torrent at http://beta.legaltorrents.com/get/190-vhs-recall
Below is a snapshot of a 25MB download in utorrent, give and take 10kB/s to the Down Speed. This is on a fresh install of utorrent – no tweaking of any settings. It’s common knowledge that TMNet bandwidth throttle on torrents.

| P1 W1MAX 1.2MB | 4 min 11 sec | ~110kB/s Down |
| TMNet Streamyx 1MB | 29 min 45 sec | ~15kB/s Down |
Winner : P1 w1max
Test #5 – Pricing and Bundles
With P1 you’re getting 1.2Mbps/500Kbps for RM99 at 12-month contract and RM89 at 24-Month contract

With Streamyx you’re getting 1.0Mbps/384Kbps for RM88 no modem without contract. Synergies with Celcom means that bundles such as the recent Home, Hop and Away plans are hard to beat to value for a Mobile/Fixed Broadband combo.

Winner : TMNet Streamyx
Test #6 – Network Stability
NOW HERE IS THE CATCH. When i first brought back the box and placed it where my PC usually sits, it can’t even negotiate a connection. Bring it closer to my front door and window, it flies. WIMAX, typical of any wireless solution like HSDPA, is susceptible to the usual interference and constraints of your house. You cannot beat a physical copper line. Although i’ve expected it, it is nevertheless dissapointing when you hit a red light(literally on the modem). On the bright side, P1 does offer a 15 day money back guarantee.
Winner : TMNet Streamyx
Verdict
You really can’t take the results above as yours because simply, it is my results with my constraints. The age of your copper line, your distance to the nearest DSLAM, network congestion and even which floor you are in pretty much defines which may be the best service to go for.
If you can spend a bit more, don’t mind fiddling with the WIMAX modem placing (assuming coverage is decent in your area) and is comfortable with setting up wireless network devices to compensate, P1 can be a good alternative mainly due to it’s (current) low congestion and the imminent rise of centrino 2 in every intel powered notebook. If you’ve got a fixed line or maybe even a celcom line, TM has got great value for money HSDPA/ADSL bundles and is probably more foolproof to set up.
While the competition’s great, Broadband in Malaysia is sadly still too darn expensive. We’ll need to wait a while longer for the promises of WIMAX, Mobile Broadband and HSBB/HSBT to break down the price barriers and all these term contract non-sense that just ties us down. On an end note, most ISPs around the world has already implemented capped bandwidth plans and bandwidth throttling. So you have to count your blessings sometimes if you’re a torrent-addict and bandwidth hogger. For the rest of us it’s irrelevant. All we’re asking for is for a speedier and more pleasant internet experience – and of course – a lot cheaper.
Winner : Poor You and Me (Hopefully)
[UPDATE 21 Nov 2009] As most of you have come to this site searching for broadband reviews, you probably figured out by the comments that it can be very subjective especially when it comes to wireless broadband. You might want to check http://blog.cglow.com/?page_id=623 for an update on the broadband packages offered in Malaysia. Take the broadband poll as well !

A great review by an end-user.
Though I’ve no more expectations for TMNet since they’re service is unreliable and ridiculous – even if it’s cheaper. Simply because consumers are becoming more IT-savvy so naturally we’re becoming smarter, not stupider. Therefore, their customer service is going to have to start treating selected customers as IT end-users rather than your casual public who’ll nonchalantly follow the beginners guide we always get from their customer service.
So why is it all about their customer service? Because their performance just suXor.

Ha , pretty good review I’ve to say. However you must understand that P1 imposes a bandwidth limit of 20GB a month. I am not sure what happens when you exceed 20GB a month. On top of that , the modem acts as a NAT , preventing users such as me to explore the modem and to tweak the settings

thanx for the review…very helpful. i’m currently using maxis wireless broadband and is waiting for wimax to reach keramat/ampang ulu klang area. last sept i checked still not yet but the salesperson say maybe in november..since it’s just the salesperson not official rep from wimax, i doubt it but hope he’s wrong and the connection reach faster to my place. i don’t have prob with maxis but they blocked p2p, which is a shame since i like to download lots of tv series and movies. if wimax service is value for money, i don’t mind being tied-up for a year or two, at least i need to be satisfied with what i pay..
if you know any more technical stuff and comparison between wimax and other provider, i’d appreciate if you can share with me. thanx again for the review

A very technical and fair review indeed! I think it is a more clearer outside in understanding of the broadband business compared to the folks running both Streamyx and wimax P1. Looks like you had time during this Raya break to do a lot of technical user tests!
Broadband is definitely a huge stretch of a word for the current service levels in Malaysia. My brother has is about to move to a house in Valencia and he asked if he should take up Celcom or Maxis broadband modem. I asked, why not streamyx? He said, no line / port. Wow, wham – imagine no line port in yuppie Valencia – a gated commmunity, where I am sure 100% broadband penetration can be boasted. Bottom line was that, I basically told him, he is screwed, because both Maxis and Celcom are good roaming travel devices, but not good for in house use where the variety of music, downloads, etc comes into play (and sometimes more than 1 person at it!). However as latest coverage for P1 is not there yet, he has actually NO CHOICE!!!
My wish list for the broadband industry is :
Players – get into the act faster!
1) Devices – Centrino PCs and Mobile Units on Wimax, and proliferation of the mobile broadband units at cheaper prices
2) Service Providers – Wimax license holders to step up the network rollout / stability, coverage and service rollout
3) Coverage – Nationwide wimax coverage by next year, with stronger competitive and local roaming coverage in city center, including WiFi roaming and coverage
4) Groundbreaking – more disruptive technology like Google phone, and the use of IP based application to steam up the broadband industry and demand
5) Content – whither the content? (instead of just the usual movie downloads)
6) Industry support – Subsidies by employers, housing areas with ready to move-in broadband, financial applications, etc
7) Live TV and Video feeds on demand

Prasys,
I have been using TMnut line and based on my exp (not sure about yours), I never get the chance to see 20 gig total download even though I’m a heavy user. If fact right now, even direct download using 1Mb/s package I’m seeing below 5kb/s and even 0.01kb/s at that for a merely 50Mb file for 9 HOURS! I decided to switch to lower speed cause it’s just not worth the money since it’s comparible to normal dial-up or worst. EVEN NOW WHEN I’M TRYING TO POST TOOK ME OVER 20 REFRESH TO UPLOAD ONE! GEEZZZ!

Nice review..
Just switched, no Ive swap to P1 trail recently.
Couple of days impression, then same as the rest of ISPs.
But because of early stage in JB, might consider an excuse.
PulseR… if you’re playing RPG type of game… most of ISPs are not an issue (still, Steamix sux)
But for RTS, FPS etc… you might wanna consider your latency instead of how broad your line is.
I have tested, Steamix have pros on uploads and pings compared to P1.
As I mentioned, it still in early-mid stages.

now p1 promising la..coz still new..once full..habis..congested..then people start complaining an d cancell and refund..as usual…no wonder p1 go to Johor..this is what i heard from friends…they said since our MCMC (Government) too busy sucking money from any new isp company..but they did servey or research that once there’s too many wireless company available in KL city especially..all antennas base station from each isp company will conflict ad interrupts their signal..be it p1, maxis, digi, u mobile, celcom or izzi..too much already…if MCMC allows new company then every isp company will die too…and that’s why p1 smart and they straight go to promote to JB people now…my friend used p1 the nice big black box..using in Pan Global KL..the line sucks there..so who said P1 is the next solution for wireless…??? Nope…it’s the MCMC should control or stop approving new wireless company to raise in Msia coz it’s too much already…do not compare them with USA or Europe..their country it big..Malaysia is less than quarter of USA only..and do not compare streamyx fixline / fiber / cabled with wireless..streamyx is improving…i’m at Ulu Klang now and they are installing the fiber pipe now…Yes i mean now behind my house they “tgh korek itu jalan” hahahaha..

November 22nd, 2008 at 4:25 pm
Since we’re on the topic of MCMC, or now SKMM – I hold them in low regard. If they have done their job properly as a regulator and protected new players, local loop unbundling and bit stream access would already have opened up competition long time ago in Malaysia bringing prices down instead of consumers succumbing to a single ISP. Wireless technologies like WIMAX/3G data is the way forward (with mixed successes) but also an obvious shortcut for them to speed up the National Broadband Plan, at the same time struggling with trying to be seen for the rakyat’s best interest in awarding HSBB to TM for fixed broadband.
To be fair, things are indeed moving after close to 10 years of almost stagnant broadband. But don’t expect a jump to the next level without flaws as the players themselves must juggle commercial feasibility and regulatory pressure to expand their networks trying to “catch up” with a regulator who’s been sleeping for some time. As consumers be prepared to loose some sleep now over non-optimized networks, and having to pay “competitive” but not exactly low prices until economy of scale catches up when the rest of the nation jumps on the broadband bandwagon.

P1 WiMax limits 20G/month for bandwidth.. well I’m a premium user for Rapidshare that currently limits the download traffic 10G/day and u’ve to buy extra download traffic if u want to download more than that which I believed many Rapidshare premium account holder “tak puas hati” and many users refused to extend their premium account due to the new bandwidth policy imposed by Rapidshare.. meaning many users “demand” more than 10G/day and I dont think P1 WiMax’s 20G/monthly policy is a “Good News” at all for some user although the “impressive” speeds.. which in that case I’ll stick to TM even though sometimes the service is sucks but still provides unlimited bandwidth traffic..

I believe that most of the readers know nothing about the technical aspects of WiMAX. Currently, P1 WiMAX is just fixed WiMAX with no mobility or handover from one BS to another BS. Maybe two to three years later, then you will have this but it’s provided the foreign company could come out with the solution since P1 is just an ISP and not involving in technology development. Sorry to say that most of our Telco or ISP in Malaysia is doing the same. So when peoples from outside throwing new toys, such as WiMAX, peoples here will busy selling out the services, spectrum and etc. The problem over WiMAX is that it is untested and not really reliable system. I would like to see how P1 going to solve the network scalability issues whenever their subscribers are going up. Are they just simply putting up more BS? P1 is just an alternative and is not a solution for broadband access in Malaysia. Wire communication is always better than wireless communication.

has anyone any comments on Maxis Broadband services?
they are so unrealiable. worst than TMnet. I now regret taking on maxis. But i have to stick with it cause of the shitty contract and the thought of getting into another contract if i terminate this
And no one at Maxis can solve my speed problem. I’ve had a case open with them for the last 3 months and they come every few weeks/months change a modem
(and even that is recycled! take a closer look at the modem and try having a chat with one of those tech guys).
I am always on the EDGE network and that means i surf at dial-up speeds but pay broadband charges!!!

@ Amirudin (again)
The videos you posted, are speedometers on local servers. Why hadn’t I seen a speed test on some overseas servers? I could get that speed if I had fiber optics installed in my area. So you can’t really go around telling people that Streamyx has upgraded just because your internet is better, and no, I’m not trying to say my internet is bad. I would place a bet you’re most probably using fiber optics. (: Trying making videos of speedometers from your house to some other servers then we’ll judge Streamyx. And together with mine.

cglow
December 18th, 2008 at 11:41 pm
It’s at RM99/month for a 1 year contract and RM89/month for 2 years contract. Modem comes free up to year end for either contract, but i suspect it will probably be extended otherwise nobody will buy at current modem pricing. WIMAX devices and networks are very much still in it’s infancy compared to other broadband tech.
Check the latest pricing at the P1 website. If you still unclear go to the unofficial low yat forum, where some “official” people are listening to you, and would probably be quite glad to help you be a subscriber. At least somebody is listening no?

I must agree with Audrey about Maxis’ broadband service. I too am experiencing basically about the same problem with Audrey.
I’ve been a subscriber of Maxis Broadband coming to one year and a half now, and my opinion is no secret I believe…which is thumbs waaayyyy down. My average ‘broadband’ speed is only about 200kbps plus 90% of the time, and yes like Audrey I’m being charged the full broadband monty. Fyi, I’m staying in Damansara Damai area.
“So why not change subscription to a new broadband service?” you ask? Exactly why I’m looking closely at P1 Wimax now. Apart from that, I’ve been talking to a number of residents here, and most of them seem to be having similar problems with Celcom, Maxis and Streamyx alike eg. undesirable & unreliable speed & service.
So, with that sorted out, I am hoping that the coming of P1 Wimax in my area would rid me of the host of problems I have so far with my Maxis. Until then, I shall closely monitor all feedbacks about P1 Wimax…and I hope they’re positive.

I’ve tested P1 WiMax for a week and was extremely impressed by the speed. Went to Low Yatt & immediately signed up for the service a day before X-Mas and terminated by account with Streamyx.
The nightmare started on Jan 2 onwards. 1st the constant disconnection, than the slow connection, and now… ZERO connection!
The excuse given by P1… too many users is causing a congestion and they are doing some upgrades.
Question…. when P1 launched WiMax in KL… what were they thinking of??? With the promotions that they are rolling out, don’t they know that there will be a sudden increase in users????
During the sign up stage and even in their website, nothing was mentioned about the 20GB limite per month…. until i read about on this blog!
What kind of service am I getting myself into? Paying for something that is not even up to the company’s promise…. uninterripted speed….
Damn disappointed with WiMAX!

Guys, do you know that wimax is operating at 3.5Ghz or higher?
This is Microwave signal and its no good to your health!
The moment you bring in their modem/transceiver, you will allow the rf to send out for over the 50km radius (as mentioned by CEO P1). Not too sure of the eirp though or the effective power. For WiFi it abt 1watt only for the AP to serve ~100m radius.
Do you know that even your microwave oven is abt 2.4Ghz? thus the higher the frequency the higher your chances to get cooked….stay healthy and check for effect of microwave….

To me Streamyx is stil the best among the other ISPs in the market so far though it stil not doing its BEST yet . Am a 2 yrs+ 1MB user frm CHERAS wit download speed between 120-150KB/s normally no matter thru HTTP or Torrent . So i dun hv anything to complain . Some more i dun need to worry about download limit . so then i can download watever i wan every day n actually my daily download always up to 5-8GB ( game / movie / program ) . At the moment I wun consider to shift to any other ISPs since no matter wat ISP is tat they do hv download limit . 20GB download limit in P1 sound big enuff for some user i guess but its stil too less for me as u can see my monthly download always up to at least 150GB . Of cuz i hope Streamyx will try to make it much more stable n cheaper if possible n provide faster speed nationwide . I know they do running a big upgrading project which actually operate by Maxis currently according to local newspaper and i do looking forward on it for a even better Streamyx very soon in the future .
At last i hope every one here understand my ENGLISH . haha

thanks for the review, and what you said is true as i am using Wimax myself now
1 thing for sure, it does not have low connectivity and frequent disconnection compare to streamyx, for which i am very thankful of. (i might died of stroke if i continue using streamyx as it always get on my nerves when it got disconnect more than 10 time in a 20 min duration)
further more the reason i terminate my streamyx is due to them cheating me for more than 4 years before i realized it.
I had been paying for the 1MB services for more than 4 years while all the while I was only enjoying 512Kb services.
In bill it was showed that I am under 1Mb package, but a friend of mine shown me the TM customer service system print screen of my contract, I was only enjoying 512 package all the time since I first subscribe (for your information, my friend work in TM cust serv center)
TMnet had been monopolized broadband services in Malaysia for sometime, so they are unwilling to change or provide better services. It’s a good thing to have a strong competitor against them for them to learn their mistake and stop them from cheating people.

I experienced the same situation, and worst is alternative ISP providers are not available for most of the users. Most of us, whether we like it or not, we got no other choice but to continue with the lousy steamyx service.
Out of no choice, and to support our own customers, i’ve put up a multi-purpose tech support site to help the users who facing such problems, http://webdesignempire.com/index.php/Table/Before-Calling-Streamyx/
I’m still preparing it due to my busy schedule, please feel free to email me if you can’t find help on the site via info@webdesignempire.com
Hope it helps.

OwenRas, you’re on wired Maxis or wireless Maxis?
Angel's Online LAG LIKE HELL USING P1 WiMAX FROM 17/2/09
February 19th, 2009 at 5:54 pm
Ya, Streamyx give a better latency and much2 better with wimax. for normal user that use internet just for searching, u no need to worry which want to use, but for me, that play ONLINE GAME, I need a service provider that can give a better latency, for me, latency that more than 100 = LAG + DELAY = SUCK. So, for other people that play ONLINE GAME, fixed line is always better than wireless. My experience :-
Streamyx > Maxis BroadBand > P1 Wimax > Streamyx
P1 Wimax speed can bit streamyx, but the latency not consistent, its a big problem for ONLINE games like me.
Before this my latency using P1 below 100, but from 17/2/09, my latency = 130++, and i CANT EVEN PLAY ANY ONLINE GAME!! THIS SUCK MAN!!! WiMAX, IF U READ THIS, PLEASE TAKE NOTE, I’m stay at GOLDEN TRIANGLE AREA, so please, settle this problem fast… i need to play online game…

While its nice that ISPs should put customers first but let’s all face it…. Why would TMNet/Telekom or any other ISP would want to improve their services (which would cost them more money) when they could charge such exorbitant rates for crappy service and still people subscribe to them for all these years?
Yeah.. I know its unethical and crappy… but what can you do?

Hi guy. I’m not a IT-savvy. I got a question here, hope u guy can gimme an answer.
I’m a subscriber of TM 512kbps package. However, i realized that the max download speed in bittorent is 50kb to 60kb/s all the time. I supposedly deserve the max download speed of 512kb/s. I have no idea what the trick is.
Besides, i tested my connection speed in speedtest.net, it stated that i have a download speed of 1220kb/s.
Why would i get the max download speed of 50-60kb/s while i am subscribing 512kb/s package? Why would the speedtest.net said that my connection speed up to 1220kb/s while i never get the awesome speed?
i would be appreciate for your answer

Are you really having b-r-o-a-d-band?
Click this links to check
What is Broadband? (http://www.broadband.co.uk/guide.jsp?section=1)
Connection speeds and download limits (http://www.broadband.co.uk/guide.jsp?section=3)
Is telephone cable the same as road highways?
1. Roads during peak period will have traffic jams.
2. However, telephone cables are similar to TNB cables.
3. One electric cable from TNB is connected to a row of terrace houses.
4. Bear in mind the usage of electricity is 24 hours per day in every house. Peak usage is during the night with TVs, airconds etc. Do you experience low voltage? Power surge perhaps.
5. Is broadband usage 24 hours? Is every house using broadband?
Therefore,
1. I urge everyone to check whether you are getting the download speed that you subscribed from streamyx. For your info, you should get at least 90%.
2. Please click this link to see how much speed you get. Click a few times to confirm. (http://promos.mcafee.com/speedometer/test_0150.asp)
3. If you are getting below 50%, please do a print screen.
4. To do a print screen, put your cursor at the down right hand corner (put the cursor at the time) to get the date and day appear. Once appear, press together the keyboard buttons ctrl and prt sc.
5. Next click start, All Programs, Accessories, Paint
6. Press keyboard buttons ctrl and v
7. Then File, Save As (put a name) Save into your desktop
8. Send it as attachment to amarjit.singh@cmc.gov.my, shaharliza@cmc.gov.my, mdshaani@fomca.org.my
9. They need your support and evidence to bring up to TM
10. Please support for everyone benefit

@John – thank you for reminding me and the rest of the users on what a broadband service should be. Malaysians have amnesia sometimes as it might seem to be the best way to get on with our sad state of (internet) life.
I try to avoid using my own blog as a rant sink but i honestly think my 1.0Mbps streamyx experience at home for the past week(s) cannot even qualify as “broadband”, and for that matter not even close to a “high-speed dial-up”.
My facebook and any foreign web pages takes over 1 minute to load. My 56k modem did better. I suspect it’s not the technology but the poor network capacity planning and customer service that’s causing us so much distress.
For that record, i am with bandwidth throttling if it guarantees fair play and decent speeds for all, but not unless an ISP is ready to allow a subscriber to buy capacity on demand.
lk
February 26th, 2009 at 8:20 am
sometimes we’re willing to pay more is not just for speed alone, but also customer service … now with all the ISPs coming will definitely create a competitive market … so again, who will benefited from this, the consumer!
at the end, no harm trying others if you don’t like the current right?

While I do not know the specifics of how P1 and TM are measuring their ‘broadband’ bandwidth, this is a general question of definition.
There is a difference between kilobyte (KB) and kilobit (Kb, note the small ‘b’) – to be precise, a byte is 8 bits. Now, I don’t want to get into an argument about whether a kilobyte is 1024 (2^10) bytes or 1000 (10^3) bytes (my personal take is that it should be 2^10); hard disk manufacturers count using 1000 bytes and RAM manufacturers count using 1024. Nor do I want to argue whether the K should be upper- or lower-case. The important difference is in the B vs b.
In any event, telcos and all always measure in multiple *bits* per second, so when you see a 1Mbps line, you should automatically be thinking (1/8) MBps instead. ~128 kilo*bytes*/sec.
Now, you’re on the 512 package, right? You might want to check and see if your BT software is measuring in kilo*bits* or kilo*bytes*. If it is the usual case of kilo*bytes*, then your max download speeds are right on the money (since 512kbps ~56KBps) and personally I’d be really happy with those kind of speeds. OTOH, if it’s in *bits*, then you really need to complain to TM, because your speeds are MUCH closer to that of dial-up than broadband and SOMETHING is wrong.
Hope this helps.
As for myself, after reading this and other forums/blogs, I think I’ll stick to the lousy Streamyx… what else to do? I draw something like 150GB a month, even at the crappy speeds.

Thanks cglow, I found out exactly what I needed to know from your excellent post. I was wondering if P1 W1MAX would be friendlier to World of Warcraft in terms of latency, but your test results suggest otherwise. What I found strange is a friend of mine who switched to Infolient from Streamyx is experiencing better ping rates.
Anyway, I just wanted to point out that the pricing of Streamyx packages that you quoted are out of date, e.g. I’m on the 4Mbps combo package and I’m only paying RM160 a month.

Thx you, Mister G. I think that Malaysia still inferor in term of internet connection speed to the other country. It’s because I downloaded an online game which about 700MB with my cousin who live in Hong Kong simultaneously. He just took almost 10-20minutes to complete the download, and me almost 3-4 hours. It’s awesome and what he told me is that he max download speed is 1000KB/s.
Even though I felt excited when the P1 wimax launched in Malaysia, but it still have a huge distance to achieve the awesome speed.

Owenras, maxis wireless broadband sucks! I heard it’s actually just 3G.
If your taman is using Maxis fixed lines, you will be slightly better off with Maxis fixed line broadband. RM88 for 1Mbps and on average, you get about 600-700kbps. But there is the fair usage policy although I’m not sure if maxis actually enforces it.

I just sign up wit P1 Wimax Free Modem with 99pkg @1200kbp..
so far the download speed is steady at 1200 and might go higher sometimes but the upload speed where they claim 500kbps can only reach up to 43kbps…. hahhahaha..
but it doesn’t matter coz he download speed is more important… and may according to the reseller my area still under a beta test and i might be staying at the edge of the signal…..
so far so good… and regarding the torrent actually it’s depend on the seeder and the network itself…
meaning we can’t hope to get a full speed every time. we use the torrent …
anyway P1 Wimax still better than my prepaid Celcom 3G in term of speed and of course the price….
the only thing i have to do is try to position my P1 modem until i get the signal before i can put it on my usual place…
for streamyx this lately they having problem with pacific cable…. no wonder my it’s speed sometimes up and down even though i’m using the SOHO in my office…

I’m still new wif dis forum thingy.
But from all the comment i’ve looked through, I’ve found out dat most P1 is still new, and dat (maybe) a factor why P1 is fast. waiting for few months may show the difference between those two.
Another thing dat I concern is the customer service. It’s very hard to reach them as if they dont wan to answer. And when i got hooked, asking few things, suddenly it disconected.why??huurrrmmm….

Thanks for the detail review on TMNUT and WIMAX. I’m using streamyx for the past 4 years. They promise the sky and deliver none.
I used to get only 300-400 kbps for 1MB package. I made hundreds of complains over the years. Recentlly the Speed got extremely good. I get 1500kbps. More than what I pay for.
My thrill shortlived. After 2 weeks, it was back to square one if not worst. Intermittant disconnection. It gets my nerve.
For those who’re very satisfied with TMNUT good for you. As far as I’m concerned Streamyx is a hopeless broadband. Dial up beats it most of the time. We want more providers. Send TM to HELL.

I changed from Streamyx to P1 Wimax a little over a month ago.
Reason – felt like being cheated on the promised speed (actually being cheated pun…)
For P1, initially the speed was, F1 racing…
Now, and consistently, the speed is, slower than a leisure walk in the park.. Worse than the streamyx.
I came to my own conclusion and assumption that the P1 company would provide a higher-than-what-you-subscribed-for speed initially to please you during the trial period. Once confirmed, heiii time to drop the speed… That’s the normal Malaysia boleh….
Anyone share the same experience and believe?

As far as i concern about this article is they compare between wired broadband n wireless broadband..i know,u can go through the speedtest.net to test the services all over Malaysia..but.i would like to tell you is, even streamyx service is poor,it because it is wired,n if you r at selangor,it will be so poor because of cabling..but,wired broadband is more stable rather than wireless broadband..n wireless broadband is not too good also for our earth health..

Just to share with you guys on what the customer service suggested to me on how to solve the “failure to connect” problem.
First – failure to connect means you ends up with red light, or if it is amber or green, you can tell it is not connected when a message “Resolving host..” is displayed at the bottom line of the browser.
The advise given was – disconnect all wires (that means the power and the LAN cable from the modem for 15 minutes, and try again.
So far, it works for me.
But what the heck is this solution? When I need to use it, I have to wait for 15 minutes without internet connection?
So much for being the tester for a new technology…

hi, me using p1 wimax (1.2mbps) at alor star, for those who want to play online game, garena as well, i recommend u not to use wimax, ping is high, the lowest ping i can get so far is 93, crazy! back then when me using streamyx, even 512kbps package, still can manage below than that.

Both of them have pron and cons.but big advise to online gamer better stick back to streamyx better due to low latency.Actually streamyx +VPN can solve all the problem like what u guys mentioned above.

Judging from the feedback regarding P1 Wimax, Streamyx, Maxis or whatever funky named ISPs out there, I can only arrive to one conclusion. Our broadband providers here in Malaysia is inconsistent across the board. One user say positively about an ISP, another says otherwise about the very same provider.
But we still need an answer yes? I dont see any here…

For location subject to weaker WiMAX wave signals, reflector shape, such as lined with aluminum foil, is effective.
You can see its example picture below.

From reading this, I wonder whether the bitcomet/bittorrent/utorrent users are using port forwarding or not. Refer here for the admin password for port forwarding. http://www.soyacincau.com/2009/03/30/p1-wimax-ds300s-new-admin-password-but-with-limitation/
I’m considering switching over to p1 for now, as my streamyx is inconsistent and I’m only getting 512kbps at night. My area is at Kg Kerinchi. Anyone has any experience here? I mainly use p2p torrent downloading – anyone who has tweaked the modem has trouble getting 1.2Mbps from p1 on p2p?

Wimax might be fast, but their after sales support is terrible. To much service failure. My sister register her P1 Wimax account on January, it works fine for a few month. But after that we had changed 2 modem and still it does not work.
Most of the time P1 staff would failed to update our modem SN & Mac id in their system. So we had to call and make sure they update, even after update it does not work.
When evey i call, they will promise all kind of nonsense and nothing moves at the end & i will be waiting for 20 min on hold most of time.
I really dont know what kind of FU#*KING customer support they provide.
After 3 month i’m still waiting for issue to be solved, every time they will promise to provide waiver.
Who need waiver, i only need service.
So guys, be carefull when you sign your contract, as its biased towards P1 and consumer right are at the stake.
Michael Lai, dont just do promotion to attract customer, do something on your customer support.

P1’s ok. IF it works!
Totally unstable. My calls and issued took 4 months! Their customer service seemed ok at first, promising waiver then suddenly they started sending threatening emails to suspend my service, etc. Went down to the office to query as to what they are actually suspending. Now they allow me to cancel without penalty, but we’ll see.
But in all fairness, they did call me back to update and even sent technicians to attempt outdoor modem installation.
Problem is I’m left with using Celcom BB. Now, this is the suckiest service in the whole world. Come to think of it, “service” is as far fetched as I’m Bill Gates! The customer service (CS) call centre bastards will start fighting with me even before I get to finish describing my problem. Then they try all sorts of bullshit, to which I respond that I’m actually a Computer Science graduate. That shut them up. I don’t know how they managed to get high ratings for the CS… Malaysia Boleh.
I guess Streamyx would be the same since it’s owned by TM, as with Celcom. All idiots.
Really, we Malaysians are bullied into signing up all sorts of stupid contracts that do nothing but provide bullshit and suck our blood! Again, Malaysia Boleh!
Please do yourself a favour and STAY FAR, FAR AWAY FROM THEM!

Coverage;
Even in areas with an abundant supply of rooftop WiMAX towers, users today often find that signal strength tails off toward the lower floors of tall buildings, while on the upper floors of buildings, users can experience poor service because signals from multiple towers may be visible and the phone constantly hunts from one signal to another. Especially, 10th floors higher is usually unstable.

hahaha…. bla.. bla.. bla.. on ISP connection
- first of all regarding the streamyx
:slow due to the copper cable that become rusty
:ur place is to far from the near cabinet
- 384 and 512 kbps not less then 4 km
-1M and 2M not less then 3 km
-4M not less then 2km
:cabinet that located the port already full and become compress
:need to check ur hardware also
-ram
-processor
-splitter, RJ 11 and RJ 45
-the phone cable also need not to be far from ur pc and main wall socket
-any running P2P background
-either LAN and NIC still in good condition or not
-modem, router, switch and hub need to check also
-second of all on dsl light blink or off
:sometime this thing happend when someone stole the coper cable or the cable being damage due to the curcumstances
:need to check the splitter first
:sometime there is corrupted hardware
-modem, router, hub, switch, LAN cable, NIC and all cable that is connected from the main wall socket to the modem
:lastly after check then still cannot then need to call 100 in order to log report then will sent tech to check the port on the outside
have a nice reading..!!

again me..!!
for the people that not satisfied with ISP connection from streamyx
-u have to understand that TM is an old ISP provide in malaysia
-if u saying on complain at the consumer right then go along
-firstly, did u read carefully on streamyx contract it is stated that TM give warranty on speed only at malaysia website
-secondly, if all of u guy here ever call 100 then u guy already facing on the customer service there.
-some of the customer service is gud and some of then are not. its due to the customer it self
-can u all imagine if someone call u guy then using unproper word…?
-f word
-mf word
-s word
-bs word and so on..
can u guy imagine that..? huh.. i don’t think so..
-then due to the streamyx connection is using cable, that why some time the connection is not gud in heavy rain or any others curcumstance that make the cable either underwater or underground got problem.
-think bout it. not just said as u guy like it..
last but not least, currently japan want to do an experiment in malaysia on HSBB (HIGH SPEED BROADBAND).
-so they already convert with TM on the project
-they respect to TM due to the our speed still stable if want to compare with any others country in asia
minimum package for the speed is on 10M around RM 6,+++
so if any of u guy affoard to get the package just wait and see for the lunching… hell yeah.. peace out..!!

Guys,
If you are having issue with Wimax or any other ISP, you can complain to MCMC.
My issue is solved within 4 days after i filed online report through MCMC.
Received called from Wimax asking why i have reported to MCMC and they want to settle the issue within 15 days.
I got back all amount which i have paid for. And according to some friend Wimax will be penalized if they failed to settle the issue within 15 days.
Know your right as consumer, don’t let these ISP to take away your right.
Recently i came across a article in PCWorld (Online), it seems Wimax failed to achieve the target of 100 K within a year.
Their customer service sucks, they don’t really take care of the customer, billing department simply bill consumer, a lot of empty promise, no manpower, and too many service failure.
I can see a similar pattern when Mr. Michael Lai was CEO of Streamyx.
Its unacceptable when a multinational company which has Intell as shareholder provide such a poor customer service.
Guys this is the link for MCMC (Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission)

Thank you MCMC, you guys are doing a wonderful job! Thumbs Up!!

after reading all these posts, feels that in “Bolehland” after all these years of lauching the supposed “Super Multimedia Corridor”, and the so called “Vision 2020″ is just some big propaganda to dupe all of us of the possibility of achievement in Malaysia while the truth is to the contrary, ….we had ‘tumpang’ to space with the Russians, we have tons of ‘white elephants’ roaming here and there, the PKFZ…, we are planning to build a bridge to Sumantara, and we are having a F1 team soon while famous car manufacturer from Japan is quiting F1 becoz it’s so expensive and unprofitable, and our “egomaniac” gov have the audacity to do it!!!
yes we are really from “bolehland” and should be proud….
sorry for being too politic but in Malaysia its the way it is…

Originally when I bought wimax, the connection seems OK but at the end of the 2nd month (u can return it after 7dys trial) n after that, u will b bound wif 1yr contract, the ‘red light’ really haunted me. Wif RM99/mth… it keeps on disconnected. Frustating… Though wif fairly good speed for downloading, unstable connection is the worst setback of wimax…
After raya, the problem is getting worse when the light has only changed frm red to orange. but no green signal is shown.
So, i think stable connection wif fairly slow speed is better than a fast speed wif unstable connection

P1 Wimax is suck. I use it streamyx and P1 wimax in my office in case 1 of the line down still can use the others. but the P1 wimax can only work for the 1st month, now already 7th month but the line problem still not fix. some of the time i can just get 15kbs download speed. When call them they said what they can do is just to waive this month bill, they can do nothing other than that. The technician is going to fix the problem and it will take about 3 weeks. But the problem happen almost every month. If compare both ISP, i believe streamyx is much much more stable. Trust me, don’t be fool by the first month usage, you will suffer for the entire year. Any cancellation of the subscribtion will cost you about RM 1000 penalty cost. We are stuck with the bad service but yet still have to continue the subscribtion. I will see how the Digi 3G service perform in the future may switch to it once the agreement with p1 end.

Maxis Sucks
October 24th, 2009 at 7:26 pm
Now looking to switch from Maxis Broadband. Maxis sucks. Have been using Maxis for the last 7 months in the Ampang area. Always very slow, slow, slow.
DO NOT SIGN-UP FOR MAXIS BROADBAND.
Really regret it.
** BE WARNED **
1) Very slow download and connection.
2) Be warned. There is a tiny 3 GB download limit per month for the RM98 package. (P1 has 20GB download limit)
3) If you want to terminate the Maxis broadband within 1 year, you have to pay them RM200.
4) Do not be fooled by their 1 week trial. Sure no problem the first week. After that or a few months later, you will regret for sure. Do not be trapped.
DO NOT SIGN-UP FOR MAXIS BROADBAND.
Seems no P1 Broadband coverage in my area.
Any suggestion on which broadband service to switch to?

LISTEN EVERYONE!!!!!.. I’ve something really important to say. Have u guys ever heard about EMF Pollution? Well, if u guys haven’t better search it on google and read about it there.
Its true that wireless communication makes our life easier, but do u guys ever think about the consequences of using wireless or cordless technology. Its not good for our health and over the next 10 years cancer might be a normal disease.
We actually being bombard by the EMF radiation everyday and thanks to the wireless provider because increasing the number of antenna, so we can quickly get cancer and die. This is the fact and many of us didn’t know.
In america primary school already being banned from using wifi technology. And in Malaysia the number of wifi increasing. People who did this wireless things care a lot about money than other human health. Its up to u guys weather to boycott this wireless things or ignore it and get cancer 10 years from now.
I’ll not deny the importance of wireless, but try to reduce it. For example use cable instead of wireless.

it stable ween u get trial day….after that it will not be the same….on the speed side…p1 only is suck….u will not get full download speed all the time…only on particular time….even dow the limit on 20 gb capacity even not reach max….paying for 1.2 mb speed on particular time??? that bad….n the payment is so meen……..if u dont pay for 2 month bill and u what to pay for 1month bill only to activate the internet if shot of 1sen it will not activate your account……

this is what i get from P1 Wimax when i first subscribed in August 2009, it was blazing fast but only to realize it was all a false promise land after the trial period ended up, the speed was mediocre and from what i notice only the 1st day of every month will the speed be good, other then that it sucks so hard on every other days that it makes Streamyx look like an unmerited winner.
that’s not all, P1 give u the 20gb threshold is not for download only but dl and ul.that means once u reach 20gb for download and upload, your speed will slow down to 300-500kbps not like what they say 700kbps. this is utter bullshit, you’ll only see 700kbps restored nearly at the end of the month. so basically to sum it up,you only enjoy P1 real speed only on the first week, so why are we paying RM 99 only to get “proper connection” on the first week only.
Streamyx sucked for sure, but P1 sucks harder because of their false promises and what not. I’m thinking of going back to my old flame but if i dont commit myself to P1 two year contract, what’s the worse can happen? like not paying the fine of rm999?!?
p/s : i can always say they did not keep their part at the end of the bargain, so i can therefore forfeit my part.
What u guys think

Streamyx is still the best, no matter how damn shitty their customer service is. Its stable and most importantly they dont limit your usage. You can download as much as you want. Although its a bit slow, but still, you get what you want and its cheaper!!
My friend who uses Maxis has been complaining ever since. She’s a heavy user on youtube and downloading songs. and she’s subscribe to 3gb package. so when her download limit reaches, maxis will minimize her speed to 100kbps..wtf!! rubbish!!
at least you dont get such things with Streamyx!!

above all P1 Vimax still the best, they not blocking any P2P or FTP files downloading. If u with streamyx they definetly block the facilities.
On the other hand, althought Streamyx offering RM89 permonth but that is not included the rent of the telephone line.
I was the streamyx user of 1Mbg b4, i know how bad they are, they work like shit.
After switching to P1Wimax, i felt free to surf anything I wish to surf.
Good job P1..u still the best I already recomend to most of the friends and members.

They always scared when someone ask them to take challenger.
Streamyx should not have downtime bcoz they wire fixs, but during I with them, almost every month I face downtime.
For P1 or other wireless broadband downtime is normal no big deal.
Anyway, why TM so worry about this challenger if you are good n the best, just accept it.

Quoted from the Youtube test part
“So much so that it’s common practise among my friends to press pause, make coffee, fry an egg and take a bath before streaming the vid. Your results might vary but i have to say streaming on the P1 line was great.”
aww, this is just the few months, when the honeymoon for Pee1 is over, you have to sleep overnight instead of making coffee, taking a bath, frying eggs or rice or lobsters
you might even want to think about going on a two days one night vacation while your Pee1 loads your 1 minutes Youtube video…

Broadband rivalry heats up, TM losing to newcomers
By TEE LIN SAY
KUALA LUMPUR: Rising broadband competition appears to be halting the growth for incumbent Telekom Malaysia Bhd’s (TM) broadband segment, which expanded a mere 6% in the third quarter ended Sept 30 compared with over 40% a year ago.
In addition to fast-growing 4G WiMAX operator Packet One Networks (M) Sdn Bhd (P1), TM also faces strong competition from Celcom (M) Bhd, Maxis Bhd and DiGi.Com Bhd which continue to aggressively promote their mobile broadband high-speed downlink packet access offerings.
The broadband landscape has intensified where it isn’t just the 3G cellular players like Celcom, DiGi and Maxis that are growing their mobile broadband share. 4G WiMAX operators such as P1 are also giving the celcos a run for their market shares.
By the end of the year, P1 targets to deploy an additional 250 base stations, or 50% of its 503 sites as at end-September, as well as to further improve its network quality and expand population coverage to 40%.
P1’s prospects of growing broadband market share is expected to rise with the onset of WiMAX-enabled devices in 2011.
Meanwhile, TM is not resting on its laurels and is now offering most users an upgrade of their speeds at a lower subscription rate than its normal plans but is locking them into a 24-month contract.

here’s statement from reports on the star:
When Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM) announced its third quarter results last Friday, what was most significant was the further reduction of its broadband net addition subscribers to 28,000.
Last year, TM achieved an average of 53,000 net adds per quarter.
So it appears that P1, which is just over a year old and has a 30% population coverage (as at end third quarter), has beat the incumbent which has a 100% nationwide coverage.
Despite aggressive rebuttal campaigns, TM continued to see defections in the October to November period following P1’s launch of the controversial “Cut Already” campaign where it prompted users to “cut” their Streamyx service and opt for P1.
Analysts obviously find this trend disheartening for TM.
“We suspect TM conceded its dominant share of fixed broadband addition in the third quarter to a nimble and more aggressive P1,” said OSK Research.

In any ways, Steamyx can’t provide fast roaming or download to server outside malaysia.. They can brag about they are equal to P1WIMAX, but they are actually not, they tested the speed with their server… We are not stupid, lol Streamyx just make a shame to the Malaysia..

Zariq Kamal; Dont u know that they (tmnet) only provide ‘access’ to International network & not under their responsibilities if anything happen to international network. Of coz they tested speed with local server. And do you know what the meaning of access? Your office door is your access to going in & out. You want to build super highway in this country, but do you care about another country traffic? U’re the high tech IT people, but not in technical. Do you know what the meaning of technical?

Hmm in many ways, I’m grateful that my home is covered by P1WiMax… I started using it since June 2009
Even when ppl argue about the bandwith limitation, somehow after I reached my limit, I still can download stuff with a fair speed, not that slow, its fast enuf for me, whether direct or using torrent, play online game and go streaming… So what more could I’ve asked for…
Truthfully I never fully satisfied during my streamyx days…

Nova,
Yes I’m really satisfied with P1, now i had no problem to surf any website i like, not like streamyx always block here n there. I start using P1 since June 2009 like Nyeet.
No problem always fullfill my need on download at any downloader application.
No need to do speedtest maa. Speedtest is just like doing Ping….
U only test between client to provider server only maa…its just a bushit test. The importent thing is I have no blocking on my download files especially Movies and Songs.
Steamyx can do that? Sorry they always block our freedom n no meaning we paid but we cannot access to website we want and the speed are slow for download.

I really dont understand how TMnet can call streamyx broadband? The amount of overseas bandwidth that seems to be provided is dismal to say the least. To get even decent speed and with overseas pages loading, I am forced to use private proxies located in Singapore.

Especially, 10th floors higher is usually unstable.

for those who thinking p1 is better than streamyx, you’re wrong.. im using p1 1.2 almost 1 year. first few month service very good. but after few mont you may experiences bad service from p1. speed very slow almost time. and sometime disconnect. im very sick of slow surfing not only downloading..
test speed result seldom can reach 1mb. i had experienced with speed as slow as below 200 kbps for download and below 100 for upload. this problem not happen to me only but also from other p1 user. streamys is the best. line is more stable. for those who thinking to potong, better think again..

I want to say that P1 Wimax Is A Shit Who Does Not Care About It’s Customers!
I am very pissed off with P1.
In August I signed up for P1 Wimax. I test runned it and within the week I found that it is not suitable for my purpose. I signed the cancellation document and told them to write the cheque to my wife or company because I do not have a bank account to deposit the refund cheque.
Despite the cancellation procedure, I still get billed. I wrote back after a few billings to tell them off them up regarding their inefficiency.
When no refund was forthcoming after the 45days was up and long after 90 days, I called customer service. Apparently there is no record of my cancellation. They probably lost my documents. They asked that I go to their office to settle this matter! (So I am being penalized for their crappy work)
I told them I want their phone number to talk to the accounts department. The call centre refused to give me the number! They want me to go there! Not satisfied, I called my Vendor in Subang Jaya and apparently I was right in that they misplaced the document.
Just few days ago, I got my cheque. Even then, they did not follow instructions despite me given WRITTEN instructions to that effect. It had my name on it and I already told them to put to my company’s or wife’s name.
Of course that got me pretty mad. I would have been neutral but because they keep fucking up and delayed my refund, I got REALLY MAD.
To me this is one FUCKED UP COMPANY who DO NOT CARE about CUSTOMER’S RELATIONS. The blocked us from reaching administration and customer service so that the directors can sit on their cushy chairs and let the customers be. I am totally pissed off!

RM 99 plan (HOME) Streamyx > unlimited download usage threshold
RM 99 plan (HOME) P1 W1MAX > 20GB download usage threshold

Dear all friends, dont be fooled by P1. I’m P1 since mid 2009.
For the first month i’m really happy with P1, their connection so good, when i run speed test, i’m so happy with the result.
But after using it for near 1 and half month, most of the time my speed result sooo bad. I’m the subscriber for 1.2 mb for 20gb bandwidth. Even some time my speed result shows my download speed test only shows 70-100 kbs, as a network engineer i’m so frustrated with P1 service.
After some googling i found and an article that really shock me.
According to that website, Its true the speed for P1 is not so bad, but only for the first month, bcos they want to make their new user happy, but after a month u will found the real P1.
For more info i would suggest u to do some googling

there is no regulator on all these service providers…and even if there is, they are not doing anything…looks like we Malaysian is stuck in the Slow Age and I got to stay with Streamyx even though their service sucks? And about the slow Streamyx, I was told from someone in TMNet that the devices and switches that TMNet used are of old era and they do not really want to upgrade their hardware. P1 and TM sucks!that is the whole Malaysia that can offer like thier gov kayu. 1M for RM$110 wireless TMnet get my ball jumping at J.B. Speedtest.net only get 800k++, not even 1M but maybe my house old copper but $110 . Bitorrent download never get 30k per files.Download like take forever. So,is only use it to MSN video Call wife when i work in SG.
Across the Tambak Johor only and my Starhub Maxonline 12M only S$48.Speedtest.net get 18M++.Partner site even go to 100M boost up at same value.Bittrorrent can get 500k~1.5M per files. Just finish download Avatar and Transformer2 FullHD 8.5G per movies for just less then two day from China site. See I mean China site, means China bandwidth already high then us.Koren already using 1000M = 1G.
Where are we. We always being screw.Who screw us. GOV leech us. Life is short play more but not in Malaysia.

here’s the deal
here is the list of ups and downs
1.p1,high speed but no internet stability
2.streamyx with a software called dns_jumper it works wonder only disadvantage is that if youre renting a place you gotta find a way to get cable
and plus one can get over 110 kilobytes of download speed
plus when you didnt pay your p1 youre completely cut off
but on streamyx you can just borrow your friend’s account
so here is my deal
streamy(owning or renting check with tenant if renting)for houses
p1(same as the above ()one) for apartments(which i am using with low connectivity i mena we pay a 100 over bucks and get fucked up like this

This is a US based ISP named iFiber Communication package advertised on their website
http://www.ifiber.tv/sites/web/docroot/internet?county=chelan
12Mbps Down 768 Up Internet
$44.95 per month
# Lighting fast always-on connection
# Includes five (5) email addresses
# Customizable spam and virus filters
# Knowledgeable technical support staff
# Public IP address
iFiber Communication 12Mbps= $44.95 = RM165
TMnet Screamyx 4Mbps = RM268
even in the US where the average personal income are much higher than our country, the people pay less for a much faster broadband speed than us in Malaysia
still thinking how this could make any sense…other than streamyx s**ks donkey a**

P1 is just another disappointment. I registered for the 1.2 M after seeing their promotional stuff and the speed was amazing. The speed wasn’t as good as wired Jaring i had when I stayed in a landed property but it was better than Streamyx. Then after just a week, it starts to suck really bad. Accessing my Yahoo mail was a real pain, even worse than dial-up and to make the matter worse, I couldn’t upload an attachment even at 200-500KB.
You may complain to them and they train their people to speak nicely to you but at the end of the conversation, there is still no solution. To me they’re just tactics to delay the inevitable. After three months of complaining and useless solution, my P1 still suck big time!
So… don’t be fooled by their roadshows! P1 suck like Streamyx. If you have Jaring as an option, go get one together with a good modem like Belkin. Don’t use the modem that they give you.

Wow!! I really got some review here. But all of you cant really imagine how slow the broadband in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. I subscribed a 1Mbps Streamyx but my result out is 0.5Mbps for upload, isn’t that sucks?! And the server is Kuala Lumpur. But , I have to say, Malaysian broadband speed is not good enough, whether P1 or Digi or Maxis or TM, just look at the chart. http://www.speedtest.net/global.php#0 Malaysia is in 87 place, I mean, C’mon!! Where is those money to develop so called MSC, or other gimmick!! And they say want to develop Malaysia into a developed country in 2020, how could it be developed if this little broadband cant be upgraded to international standard?! It just sucks.

We all know Streamyx throttle torrent. It’s a known fact that TM charges 3x more than other country for its Internet services. In other countries, a 1MB line would only cost RM 40 at most (compared to RM 110). That is totally ridiculous since TM quality of service is below par, yet we are paying more than what we should.
And now, as of November 09, Streamyx is throttling hosting websites such as Megaupload and Rapidshare. To top it off, Youtube is also being throttled from 11am to 11pm. I’ve tested the speed of streaming a 3min video in Youtube at 9am and 1pm. The difference is quite shocking.
9AM – The video streamed at a speed of 90kb – 120kb. Minimal to zero buffer time.
1PM – The video streamed at a speed of 20kb – 30kb. It took 10 min to load a 3 min video!!!
This is how absurd Streamyx’s services are. We are paying more but gain less. It is a shame we called Malaysia a great country since little is being done by our so called “caring” goverment in addressing such issue. Few to no legislations are being done by the MSCC to make sure we do not suffer.
So much talk about being a IT-competent country when our freedom to gain information to the Internet is interrupted with this petty things.
I am not trying to be political or anything, but sometimes I think maybe the Oppositions / PKR should run the country. Maybe, and just maybe they can fix this kind of things that made the international community criticize our country.

My P1 is making me nuts as I cannot connect to gmail account on https. Not to mention to connect to facebook. The coverage at my area seksyen 17 is not good, and always on yellow light. I notice the connection got on and off.
I am assuming P1 does not have bandwidth allocation to the customer end. Whoever using bitorent or like will use up most of the bandwidth. Leaving other customers to compete with the remaining bandwidth. As the population of P1 grow in your area, there will be less chance for me to use P1 network. Now I am stuck in paying RM 99 per month and get very little network bandwidth. I rather pay for a coffee to surf on the hotspot.
Sigh!

For some, P1 is better. But in Rawang, the coverage sucks. You’re lucky if the yellow light on. Most of the time on the red… even at 3am.

Now looking to switch from Maxis Broadband. Maxis sucks. Have been using Maxis for the last 10 months in the Taman Kinrara area. Always very slow, slow, slow and sometime no connections too.
DO NOT SIGN-UP FOR MAXIS BROADBAND.
Really regret it.
** BE WARNED **
1) Promises made by the salesman that it is unlimited connection and he did not received any complain from Taman Kinrara MAXIS BB users. But when I called the customer service the girl answered the phone said it is limited.
MAXIS BB sucks .. I called to service center 1st time a girl told me to restart the modem and delete all the cookie and bla bla bla… and they will reset the modem and will call me back in 10 min.
Waited for almost 30 min I call the service center again is a guy talking and say to unplug the modem and plug in after 5 min and to restart my pc … Told will will call me back in 5 min to my hand phone….
1hour later ….
3rd time I call back …. I really unhappy .. I try complaint… the service center other guy answered my call and hang up when he hear it is me again on the phone…
After he hang up I tried to called up again no one is picking up the call, I know they can see my Mobile number that why no one wants to pick up call.
The following day I called the service center and compliant abt the service and wanted to speak to the Duty Manager
and they were passing the calls around for almost 30 min and I hang up.
The next day a guy from the center called and told that I have reached the max usage. I told him it is impossible I have reached the max when I’m only using the third day of the month and use for yahoo and facebook. He just say that I have reached the max usage of 1.5. I was wondering is it worth paying for this kind of service.
2) Be warned. There is a tiny 1.5 GB download limit per month for the RM78 package. (P1 has 20GB download limit)
3) If you want to terminate the Maxis broadband within 1 year, you have to pay them RM200.but after few month you may experiences bad service from MAXIS BB. speed very slow almost time and most of the time disconnect. I’m very sick of slow surfing not only downloading.
Speed Test result seldom can reach 1mb. I had experienced with speed as slow as below 0.30 kbps for download and below 0.01 for upload. this problem not happen to me only but also from other MAXIS BB user.
4) Do not be fooled by their 1 week trial. Sure no problem the first week. After that or a few months later, you will regret for sure. Do not be trapped.
DO NOT SIGN-UP FOR MAXIS BROADBAND.
Latest checked by MAXIS Technician at Taman Kinrara there is no coverage in this area very very poor coverage.
Any suggestion on which broadband service to switch to?
I play online facebook games. It’s really suck when cannot down load the game and most of the time MAXIS reset my connection.

Whowww.. What a confession you’ve got there darl.. well as for me, maxis aren’t so good but in my opinion the maxis bb is only got a limited location that can make a higher internet connection..
Well for all the users i’ve tried everything .. starting from TMNet Dialup until the P1 Wimax,
wanna know for sure? TM Streamyx are the nicer one.. The speed are awesome, even sometimes it suXxx.. Anyway which plan are you guys at? Mine using the business plan package in my home and yes, they all looking good, do not get trapped with the advertisement..
Hey nothing is come in perfect..
Let’s vote!!
TM / P1Wimax =

After 1+ year using P1 1.2MB package, I still vote for P1. I use streamy for about 5 years and the speed is very bad. P1 customer care also better than streamyx. The only bad thing is the limited download per month. 20GB is not enough.

unlimited access just chaos. They are all started to throttle content such as p2p, mkv, avi, streaming
